Today, four separate cities comprise the Palos Verdes community. Each has it's own
special visual elements and each incorporated for the same reason; local control.

Rancho Palos Verdes is both the largest and newest of the four Peninsula cities. RPV was incorporated in 1973.  It is approximately 13.6 sq. miles. Rocky cliffs, bluffs and two small beaches comprise the city's seven and one half miles of coastline. This coastal/hillside community offers a wide range of magnificent views, including the L.A. Harbor, Catalina, Channel Islands, Malibu and the L.A. Basin. The panoramic views and natural scenic character of the city, with it's rural areas, canyons and wildlife provide a pleasant experience for residents and visitors alike.

Palos Verdes Estates incorporated in 1939. PVE covers approximately 4.75 sq. miles with 4.5 sq. miles of coastline.  Graceful Mediterranean architecture characterizes the Riviera theme of Palos Verdes Estates. The city is noted for it's red tile roofs and carefully planned landscaping.  As the oldest of the Peninsula communities, Palos Verdes Estates contains many sites of historical nature.  PVE is most noted for its "queen's necklace" view which stretches beyond Santa Monica Bay.

Rolling Hills Estates incorporated in 1957. RHE was developed during the real estate boom that occurred after World War ll.  The city contains major shopping and commercial centers.  Horseback riding is a primary interest in this varied community and the City maintains miles of riding trails.

Rolling Hills is the smallest of the four Peninsula cities.  Development in this distinctive community began in 1936. The city is completely enclosed by white split rail fencing and is entered through only three guarded gates. The City's rural atmosphere and natural land contours have been maintained over the years and the community is characterized by densely wooded rolling hills.  Rolling Hills is comprised of large country estates with some offering spectacular ocean and pastoral views. A perfect community for those who value equestrian estates and privacy.
